Tamaqua winter maintenance

Christmas Tree Collection

As a service to residents, the Tamaqua Street Department will collect Christmas trees now through January 31, 2017. Residents should place trees at their curbside and the Street Department will collect as time and weather permits. Christmas trees should not be put in bags and all tinsel and other decorations must be removed. Residents can also drop off trees behind the Tamaqua Borough Garage at 417 Rear East Broad Street.

Snow Removal

Snow removal will be performed on various streets in Tamaqua during the winter season.  Streets will be posted the day before snow removal is scheduled.  Starting times may vary depending on work schedules and weather conditions.  Residents are reminded that they must move vehicles for snow removal. Vehicles that remain on the posted streets will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense. Reminders will be posted at www.tamaquaborough.com and at the Tamaqua Borough Facebook page.

Sidewalks

Tamaqua property owners must maintain a three-foot-wide path on their sidewalk that is clear of all snow and ice. Snow and ice must be removed from sidewalks within 24 hours after a storm ends.  Property owners who fail to clean their sidewalks may be subject to a $25 fine for the first offense and higher fines for subsequent offenses.

Residents are reminded not to throw snow, ice, or other materials on the streets. Traffic can compact the snow into ice and cause a traffic hazard. Snow should not be piled at intersections, fire hydrants or on top of storm drains. Residents are encouraged to clear snow from fire hydrants and storm drains. Residents can be fined for throwing snow on the street.

Any questions may be directed to the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 East Broad Street, during normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or call 570-668-3444 or 570-668-0300.
